The Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine is conducting a targeted search for an open-rank tenure- or non-tenure-track faculty position with a commitment to and record of research in the areas of health decision sciences and cost-effectiveness analyses.
We have a particular interest in recruiting faculty who can contribute to research and education offerings within the Vanderbilt Center for Health Economic Modeling (VCHEM). VCHEM was established at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2020 and serves as an intellectual hub for discovery, learning and dissemination for innovative applications and methods in health economics. The Center facilitates within- and across-institution collaborations in cost-effectiveness research and applied health economics, and provides periodic learning opportunities (e.g., short-courses, seminars) for researchers and industry practitioners.
The Department of Health Policy was established in 2013 and has grown to include 22 faculty. The combination of a major research university and preeminent medical center gives Department faculty incredible opportunities to build relationships with frontline care providers and policymakers which can lead to breakthrough discoveries. Faculty interests include health care financing, insurance design and coverage; aging and long-term care; precision and genomic medicine; delivery system improvement; provider payment, health services research; pharmacoepidemiology; cancer epidemiology; and infectious diseases. The Department is built on the premise that research and innovative thinking should guide health policy and policymakers to understand implications of their choices.
The Department benefits from Vanderbilt’s single campus, the depth and breadth of health-related research conducted across the University and its location in the state capital. It boasts a robust data infrastructure and currently has active data use agreements with TennCare (Tennessee’s Medicaid program), the Health Care Cost Institute, IBM (MarketScan Commercial and Medicare claims), CMS (Medicare claims and Formulary Files), and the NCI (SEER-Medicare registry-claims linked data). We also have active collaborations with groups across our campus, including the Economics Department and Department of Medicine, Health, and Society; the Peabody School of Education; and the Owen School of Management.
The Department currently offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree – including a Health Policy track – and a doctoral program (PhD) in Health Policy. More about our faculty and programs can be found on our website, www.vumc.org/health-policy/.
