"What 2% of firearm fatalities reveal about a public health crisis: Lessons for health equity and public policy."

Bio: 
Dr. Julie Ward is a Board Certified Advanced Public Health Nurse and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Health, & Society and Public Policy Studies at Vanderbilt University. She completed her PhD at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy & Management, in affiliation with the Center for Gun Violence Solutions. She also holds of Master of Nursing degree in Community Health Systems, specializing in Occupational and Environmental Health, from the University of Washington. Dr. Ward’s research focuses on firearm policy, shootings by police, and public health and safety systems, with an emphasis on equity in the prevention of injury and violence-related trauma.

Joshua Wallach. PhD, MS;

"Understanding the use of existing real-world data for medical product evaluation and health policy decision-making"

Bio:
Joshua D. Wallach, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. He earned both his PhD and MS in Epidemiology and Clinical Research from Stanford University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University as part of the Collaboration for Research Integrity and Transparency, an interdisciplinary initiative between the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Law. Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Wallach served as a faculty member at the Yale School of Public Health for four years.

Dr. Wallach’s research focuses on using a wide range of methodologies and data sources to evaluate the role of evidence in policy decision-making and in the development, regulation, and utilization of medical products. His methodological expertise encompasses evidence synthesis and evaluation, including conducting systematic reviews, meta-analyses, next-generation reviews, and meta-research studies. Currently, he is a core faculty member of the Collaboration for Regulatory Rigor, Integrity, and Transparency (CRRIT), where he mentors students on research that informs policies to strengthen evidentiary standards for novel therapeutics. Additionally, Dr. Wallach is part of the leadership team of the Yale Open Data Access (YODA) Project and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
